Santa Clara’s Puesto gets a wild Humphrey Slocombe flavor

After you polish off a taco trio at Puesto, Santa Clara’s cavernous and colorful taco palace, you could end the meal with a fruity dessert or dulce de leche.

Or you might try the newest offering, an ice cream flavor that San Francisco cult fave Humphry Slocombe has created especially for this Mexican restaurant.

It’s Sweet Corn Ice Cream, with a tangy swirl of strawberry jam and pieces of white chocolate cookie crunch. A scoop costs $5.

Another local pairing involves Puesto’s Margarita of the Month. October’s cocktail features juice from Los Gatos’ Juice Co.

Slocombe, known for such cheeky flavors as “Elvis (the Fat Years)” and “Secret Breakfast,” a bourbon-and-cornflakes combo, frequently makes collaborations to celebrate Broadway shows brought to the Bay Area. “We Got the Beet” honored the Go-Go’s musical debut here, and the return of “The Phantom of the Opera” prompted a new sundae, which was naturally a black-and-white.
